What is PPL?

Private Pilot Licence

A PPL (Private Pilot Licence) allows you to fly as pilot-in-command for leisure and private purposes, but not for payment.

The Private Pilot Licence is the standard licence for recreational flying. Holders may carry passengers and fly privately, but not for hire or reward. In the UK it is typically gained after a minimum of 45 hours of training and passing written exams, a skill test and a language proficiency check.

Many pilots then add ratings such as night, IR(R) or a type/class rating to extend their privileges.
