What is QFE?

QFE is the altimeter pressure setting that makes the altimeter read height above a specific datum, usually the aerodrome, so it reads zero on the ground there.

QFE is the pressure setting that references the altimeter to the aerodrome (or runway threshold) datum. With QFE set, the altimeter reads height above that datum, so it shows zero on the ground at the aerodrome.

QFE is often used in the circuit and for training, because circuit height is then read directly. QNH, by contrast, references mean sea level.
