What is NOTAM?

Notice to Air Missions

A NOTAM is a notice that alerts pilots to temporary hazards or changes, such as airspace restrictions, runway closures or unserviceable equipment.

A NOTAM (Notice to Air Missions, historically Notice to Airmen) is a short, coded notice of anything temporary that a pilot needs to know before flying: restricted airspace, closed runways, obstacles, navigation aids out of service, or events such as air displays.

Checking relevant NOTAMs is a required part of pre-flight planning, alongside the weather.
